Unhappy possible bad harddrive?

hello.my son has a hp laptop.when you power up he gets a ( 1720-smart harddrive detects imminent failure(failing attr: 05), then says to backup contents on harddrive and run hdd self test in f10 setup. we run self test and get (error: read failure.does this mean the harddrive is bad? not sure what to do at this point. any help is appreciated.

I would believe it. Back up your data NOW and install a replacement drive before it fails

Thanks For Responding Tworails.my Next Question Is How Can I Save This To My External Harddrive?i Cant Seem To Get Past This Fail Info.

Remove the drive and put it in a USB adapter and connect it to a working computer. That may not work, but it's your only chance. Here's an adapter:

thanks again GLC, TWO RAILS.ended up bying a NEXSTAR hdd enclosure.GLC i forgot to mention that the hard drive was ide.hooked this up and was able to transfer the data.thanks again and as always,much appreciated.
