cant switch to external monitor

I was using the external monitor and I accidently hit an option to use the laptop display only and rebooted. Now I can't switch over to the external monitor. This is crazy. The key is definetely!!! function f5 and it's not working. It's an acer laptopn travelmate 4020. Any ideas?

Are you hitting the Fn and F5 keys?

If so, right click on the desktop and go into Display Properties to extend the monitor.

The display on the laptop is busted so I can't see anything on that screen at all. Definetely hitting FN F5 (many times). It was working fine until I switched it to the option of display only when I was able to see and use windows (using the external monitor).

arg, I hooked it up to another monitor and it worked. The monitor that it was working on was an old monitor and I had to use the cable that came to it, as the cable doesn't come out of the back. I ended up taking the monitor cable that came with the laptop and plugged it into another monitor. Thanks
