iPod Suggestions!

Hello everyone,

I'm looking to get an iPod as a Christmas gift, but unsure on which one to get!.

I've been looking at the nano, touch, and the classic! they all seem to have it's pros and cons. At this point, I am leaning for towards the classic for the price/GB but not sure if that would be the "best" option to go with.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I was at Best Buy today, I hate BB and never buy anything from them but I had time to kill while my better half shopped for clothes next door. Anyhow I was looking at the iPods while I was there and the Touch is very nice but I liked the compact design of the Nano also. The classic just seemed to thick and bulky...something I would be willing to put up with if it had a much larger screen such as the Touch.

If you have a BB or Apple store near you I think the best thing would be to head down and try them out.

I agree with 12...
See'em in person and keep in mind what you want to do with the iPod.

If you're strictly interested in music then the Nano is the best bet if you're OK with using play lists.
If you want a mobile web browser/video player then the iTouch.
If you've really need to carry everything with you, then yeah the iPod classic.

I'm trying to talk myself out of buying a 16 GB iTouch but it's not working too well

I'm not an apple fan, and even though you're asking about ipods, I have to say that I love my cowon. I have the I-audio 7.

Check them out: http://www.cowonglobal.com/

Best sounding mp3 I've ever heard.

Got my eye on the Cowon D2 16GB.

They are supposed to have the best audio of all the players.

But then I'd have to upgrade the IEMs ....

Thanks for the suggestions!

I have gone to the stores to take at look at them

Personally, I've never been a huge fan of iPods myself but as I mentioned it will be a gift/treat...having said that the iPod would most likely be used for outdoor activities (jogging, biking), office environment and the odd business trip.

IF it was for me, would definitely get the classic but just unsure if it will be appropriate for the above mentioned activities.

- The nano is nice and compact but just not enough capacity, I think.
- The touch has all the bells and whistles, but again capacity could be an issue, and don't know if the "extras" such as wi-fi would be a selling feature.
- The classic, lots of storage capacity but bulky

So, that is the dilemma!

Don't want to purchase one and not be the right one, and not able to exchange it after the holidays! Giving a gift card could be an option but it's just so BLAH!

oh and pam123 - Just get it, you know you WAAAAAAANT IT.

Thanks again!

I have an older iPod Mini (no longer available) and it has served me well but want to move up to something w/ a color screen. Guess that's why I was looking at the new iPods at BB yesterday but another thing I came across was Slacker. http://www.slacker.com

Their new G2 radio/mp3 player is very nice and compact...fits very nice in the hand. Much better than their first player which was pretty bulky I hear. It costs something like $8 per month to access their unlimited and no-add music service. It downloads playing lists to your player and when you hear a song you really like you hit the favorite button on the player and it will then automatically save that song permanently. So a bit different than iPond + iTunes but you can get much more music for just $8/month where as it would only buy you 8 songs w/ iTunes.

I'm still doing some research on Slacker and not sure yet if I'm going to go for it. I hear the audio quality is very, very good through the player and I know it good through their online free music jukebox.

You can get around 1800 128 kb music files on an 8 GB mp3 player (whether it's an iPod or not) so I don't think you need to worry about capacity if you decide on one.
TV shows can also work, which surprised me, but movies require careful selection.
Say 4 TV episodes or 2 movies and the rest music and an 8 Gb player could make business trips less of an ordeal and supply you with plenty of workout music on it's own play list.

I will struggle with temptation a while longer.
That way I can feel I put up a good fight when I succumb, just in time for Xmas.

Something to consider -- the Classic has a hard drive, which can fail more easily if you drop it or go jogging with it. The Nano and Touch have flash memory, which is less likely to go bad. Personally, if I were you and had less than 16 GB of music, for the uses you're saying, I would suggest the Nano.

I have to agree, the Nano sounds like your best option. Keep in mind that they can still hold plenty of songs, and for outdoor activities, you don't need 12 days worth of tunes. And if you're nearby to your computer, be it at home or a laptop on the road, you can always refill your iPod for fresh sounds.

Depending on how large the capacity is, this might not be viable. It takes a while for new songs to transfer.

It can, but its an option nonetheless.
