DVD Drive failure
My DVD-RW started dying on me about 6 months ago. First it wouldn't write/read re-writable disks then it failed to recognise any disks in the drive.
I replaced the drive and all was well. Now, within five months, the new DVD drive is dying. Does anyone know if this is likely to be a faulty drive or whether there is something more sinister in my laptop that is wreaking havoc on disk drives? I have an HP Pavillion DV6330 with Vista. As always, any help is greatly appreciated Durham Red |

One little spec of dust on the lenses can make em stop reading writting.
You can get a cleaning kit for ten bucks and or a can of compressed air.

Optical drives can die at any time like any hardware. What brand is it...perhaps it is still under warranty?

Yes it will still be under warranty. If the replacement works I want to know if there's something wrong with my laptop that's frying the drives.
