AMD vs Intel

hey guys ..

I was wondering .. which one is better on laptops ? lets imagine 2 laptops which has same specifications and same brand of components .. except the CPU .. which one will u take ? the one with intel ? or the one with AMD ?

in addition .. some few question :
>> which one has better power management ?
>> better heat management ?
>> better performance for gaming ?
>> better performance for rendering ? (3d max rendering for i.e.)
>> which one is cheaper ? lol
and last question .. where I can find comparison chart for CPUs models ? I saw one but dont remember where ..

thx in advance

I prefer Intel for everything but it is all a matter of personal preference.

Several individuals on here have stated that AMD is best for gaming but Intel rules in every other category. I am AMD in my notebook and my file server but I think I'll go with Intel for my next desktop.

alright .. thanks for all ..

now , since the Intel is the winner - already knew that , just wanted to give AMD a chance since I never used it lol - a new question is needed ..

there is a new dual core CPU presented by Intel which is Core i7 .. did anybody saw that on a laptop yet ? or will be any soon ? because Im gonna buy new laptop (since my laptop screen is gone and I sold it with a good price ) and I hate to buy somthing and after a while a new thing show up in the market - happened to me many times , frustrating !

In the interests of avoiding yet another Intel vs. AMD argument here, let's keep this thread narrowly confined to notebook issues. In general, AMD is positioning itself as a "budget" notebook processor to get the low end sales. As such, they perform well and keep the unit cost down at the expense of battery life.

The top Intel mobile processor right now is the "P" series. It does not perform significantly better than the "T" series but it has better power and heat management.

If you wait for new technology, you will never buy anything - new technology is always "just around the corner".

Core i7 is a quad core CPU and is currently available only for the high end desktop market. Core i7 will appear probably halfway through 2009 for the desktop, but most likely only in quad core version. Something better will always show up on the market, just get something that works for you and has some future-proofing. If you need a good graphics processor, avoid laptops with intel integrated GPUs at all costs, the performance of the inte integrated processors is terrible, try to get a laptop with either AMD or Nvidia graphics.

I am by no means a hard core gamer or an expert in anything computer, but from what I have observed Intel is geared more toward over clocking and hard core gamers. AMD is geared more toward enthusiasts and mid to low gamers.

I personally have used both over the years and I prefer AMD. Its cheaper, I think it actually runs cooler than Intel but thats my opinion, and it does everything that Intel does. As for speed your talking a matter of a couple of seconds.

You don't overclock and play hard core games on laptops unless they are custom built with modified desktop processors and have a hellacious cooling system. AMD mobile processors do not run particularly cool.

I play all my games on my Alienware Aurora notebook. My notebook is better than my desktop. My Dell XPS 400 can't even run COD4 that well. I plan on building a new and very updated desktop in the next year so I can stop using my notebook as my sole gaming machine. It's actually my sole machine anyway because the Dell is just too old. The wife has a better system than I do.
