Laptop Battery issues
About a day ago my laptop battery stopped charging. In windows vista it said "plugged in not charging". The battery LED light will only come on for a few seconds now. The battery isn't all that old and before this problem it lasted a long time without the AC hooked up i honestly don't think its dead.
Is there a way I can run the Notebook off of the AC power only? The power LED comes on and is stable. But i cannot get it to boot. Toshiba Satelite A135-S4427 I have heard that you can "renew" a dead battery by freezing it. It is a lithium ion battery. Will this sort of thing work with lithium ion? Thank you in advance to the pcmech community you guys are always very helpful .edit: I left it charging overnight and when i came back both the AC and Battery lights were flashing. I tried to boot it up and it ran for a few second then died. Last edited by jra64; 12-04-2008 at 10:14 AM. |

Hey,
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but you should be able to work on a laptop with the battery removed and AC power alone. With your issue, it seems that you cannot do this. If that is the case and your battery will not charge or barely charges, it sounds like the AC charger might be the culprit of your problems. Interested to see what everyone else thinks

Not all laptops can be operated with the battery removed.

So would you guy say that its worth a shot to freeze the Lithium Ion battery? Gah I really dont want to spend 90+ bucks just to test if its the battery.

I have the same problem and it just started the other day. I hadn't used the laptop in two weeks and when I removed the power it just immediately shut down. I reconnected the power to charge it and it says charging but the battery will not go above 0%. The laptop is old (Inspiron 2600) and the battery is the original but this happened rather suddenly. Could an xp update be to blame? I am also reticent about buying a battery only to find out that it's not the problem. I think I'll try the freezer trick. Anyone know how long to put it in the freezer for? I don't want it exploding like a can of coke.
