Looking For A Realiable Mobile Notebook
I am getting deployed sometime next year for 6 months and I would like to take my notebook but I have an Alienware m9700. It's alright but I would like something more mobile. I don't know which brands are the best for notebooks. I have the Alienware and my wife has a Dell. I am looking to speed less than $1000. Something that can play current games, like CSS, COD, etc. The most memory as possible and most likely all of them will come with Vista SP1 which I'm fine with just as long as the games will play and I will be able to do other things like watch music videos.
Any suggestions? I even thought about going with an Apple notebook but they seem more expensive. |

Looks like the basic build is pretty good and only requires a few changes to have better performance. I would take a look at getting the 8600GT ($100 extra and provides at least twice the gaming performance of the 8400GS) and possibly a 9 cell battery ($40 extra and increases the battery life a decent bit). After making these two changes the price came to $1089, here are the specs:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5800 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache) Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1 Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch LCD (1280x800) & 2.0 MP Camera 3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms) 320GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive Slot Load DVD+/-RW (DVD/CD read/write) 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT Dell Wireless 1395 802.11g Mini Card 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery High Definition Audio 2.0 If that is out of your budget, take a look at Asus notebooks, the performance and price is pretty good. Here are a few links: ASUS M51 Series M51Ta-X1 $799 AMD Turion 64 X2 RM-70(2.00GHz) 15.4" WXGA 1280x800 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 3GB DDR2 250GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220348 Smaller version: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220303 ($899) ASUS N80 Series N80Vn-X1 $899 Intel Core 2 Duo T5800(2.00GHz) 14.1" WXGA 1280x800 1024MB NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GT 4GB DDR2 250GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220389 Larger version: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220393 ($949)

I get a discount on Dell systems. I'll go with the 1530. Do I need to upgrade the CPU to a better clock speed? I've had problems with the CPU being used up to 100%. This will mainly have games and I'll move my music vids over before I leave as well. Multi-tasking is important as well.
