whats up with battery life?

I'm not sure if I understand the concept behind the such short battery life for laptops. If it's suppose to be a mobile laptop than wouldn't you think battery life would be better than 2 hours or even less? As soon as the time is up, you have to find an outlet so you can plug it in. If you were traveling or in a place where you didn't have a plug or even just sitting around on your couch at home - it's rather inconvenient to be only allowed to use the laptop for 2 hours or less. Don't get me wrong, I love my laptop but I find myself keeping it plugged in most of the time to avoid the inconvenience of the short term life the battery.

Battery life depends on the battery size, and the laptop model.

Using a brighter display will lower battry life. Having wifi or bluetooth on will also use more power.

2 hours is pretty bad, especially if the computer is new. Google "extend latop battery" and you will find lots of tips. Every little thing the PC does counts.

What type of CPU does your laptop use? I have a Toshiba with an AMD Turion and while I am happy with the laptop overall I am not impressed wtih the barely 2 hours of battery life.

When I worked on a friends similar spec Intel based laptop it not only ran much cooler but the battery lasted just over 4 hours! I was able to install Windows Vista, updates, and software on battery power. I don't even know if it was fully charged to begin with.
