Upgrade CPU In A Notebook

Is it possible to upgrade the CPU in an Alienware m9700? I currently have a AMD Turion 64 Mobile ML-40 2.2Ghz. I would prefer not to send it back to Alienware.

You can upgrade the processor in your notebook, but most likely it will void any warranty you may have on it and there really aren't many options for upgrading. You can upgrade to the either the ML-42 (2.4GHz and half the cache of your current processor) or ML-44 (2.4GHz and the same amount of cache as your current processor). The Alienware only support socket 754 processors and not the newer S1 socket which has the dual core processors.

0.2 GHz sure doesn't look like it's worth it to me.

I agree, especially since the high end processors for any socket are always expensive, even long after they've become obsolete. On the other hand, dual core Turions (Socket S1) are selling for very low prices, a computer store in my city is selling OEM 1.6GHz dual core Turions for under $20. Dual core Turions are a great deal for the price but it's hard to find a inexpensive laptop to put them in.

Thanks guys. Just thought I'd check. I bought the Dell M1530 which will come with a dual core chip.
