It's Christmas and it's Apple iPod Touch ...
So first we have the software update here : http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/softwareupdate.html
And the manual (PDF) is here : http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipodtouch Spare yourself grief, read first!  And yes, you do have to update iTunes.

Anyone else having trouble getting the file? I keep getting damaged file notice.

This will give me something to read, seeing how our iTouch has been stuck in Ohio since the 23rd, and won't be delivered until the 30th.
