Compaq laptop problem
I'm posting trying to help my fiancee who is living in Florida right now while I'm up in Chicago, so keep in mind that I don't have all of the details.
He bought a Compaq Presario laptop about two and a half years ago (with extended warantee), and since Oct/Nov of last year has been having problems. It has been sent back to the manufacturer 4 times now without getting fixed and it sounds like they aren't going to fix it and are claiming that nothing is wrong with it. He was told that if they can't fix it after 4 times they send him a new laptop. He was supposed to have the old one back and fixed on Monday, but they don't want to fix it or send him a new one, so I need some advice on what everyone thinks could be the problem so in one way or another it can get fixed without spending a fortune. Now on to the problem... All of the sudden with just normal use it started freezing, blue screening, and restarting. You don't have to be doing anything at all for it to do it, and it's to the point where it's constant. He said that once when it blue screened it gave him the option to try and repair what was wrong and he did that, which then brought up some sort of error with the hard drive. Windows XP has been uninstalled and reinstalled more times that I've been able to keep track of, Vista has been tried, and the first time it was sent back the hard drive was completely replaced. Nothing helped at all. Everything besides the constant BSOD, restarting, and freezing it's been fine. No messages about low memory or anything. Does anyone have any ideas I can look into? I don't know the exact model of the laptop right now, but I'm hoping to later today. I'm not th best with computers, but I'm decent. No experience with laptops though, so try not to go over my head too much. |

No I don't. I tried getting my fiancee to write down the error messages, but the computer restarted too quickly and at that time he was too frustrated to try and follow my instructions to change it so that it didn't.

Go to "Start"-- Right Click "My Computer"-- "System Properties" --"Advanced"--Look for "Startup and Recovery"--Clik "Settings"--UNCHECK "Automatically Restart". The blue screen will stay open so the Error Code can be read.
