Dell Warranty Transfers
I'm selling my laptop, and someone asked for the Service tag, my first name, and my last name to verify that the warranty is transferable. Well, I've seen the Owner transfer form, and all it requires from the original owner are those three things to actually change the ownership, so I don't want to give it out. I'm having difficulty verifying that my warranty is actually transferable, though. I just thought all limited hardware warranties for systems were.
Any insight on this? I'm calling Dell in a bit but I have the feeling this is the kind of question that will have me being transferred from one person to another for awhile. |

See what Dell says but if that info is required on the Owner Transfer Form I don't see any way around it.

well, I don't actually mind giving them out. The issues was that anyone with that information could change the ownership without my permission (so, if I give it out for them to "verify" that it's transferrable, they can just transfer it.) I mean, I guess I could get it switched back by calling dell and saying it was unauthorized, but I'd rather avoid the hassle. As expected, I got a runaround from Dell (polite, but it was a series of "To the best of my knowledge, yes, but I'm not 100% on that. Let me switch you to...").
-sigh- I guess I'll just keep the disclaimer that it may not be transferable. That's gonna be a pain when it is and I lose money because people didn't want to bid. |

Just say that upon sale, you will fill out the transfer form. You cannot guarantee that Dell will accept it but you will try in good faith.

Thanks, that was a much more concise way of wording it than I had.
