Looking for a basic laptop

Hey,

I'm looking around for a basic laptop to do word processing and for video playback.

It will not be used for games, that's what I have my desktop for

I know nothing about laptops. I was browsing around

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/cla...=EN&catid=1002

to see what they had.

I've read around that I should stay away from brands like HP and Sony so I'm leaning towards Toshiba. Maybe even Acer?

My problem is I'm not sure what processor I should get? I'm out of the loop for processors for laptops.

Could someone help me out here? I'm looking to spend around $600 CAD for a decent laptop. Are there any other Canadian vendors that I should look at to purchase a laptop?

Thanks!

If all you want it for is word processing and video playback you may consider getting an older used laptop. You can search on Ebay or Craigslist for anyone selling an old laptop and you can get something that would do the job fine for around $250 US. Not sure what that transfers to in Canadian. It would do the job fine and you'd save a lot of money.
Otherwise, you can find laptop on http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...0%20-%20%24500

That's searching under their lowest prices of around $400 US but those are still going to be duel processor computers which seems way overkill for word processing and alike.

I'm never in favor of buying used PC's. Look around Dell's site. I believe their refurb's have some kind of warranty.

Get a Dell. The Vostro 1510 on the Dell.ca small business site starts at $549. That's with Vista Basic, a Celeron, and 2gb ram.

What's the difference in quality between Vostro and Inspiron series? For the same price the Inspiron 15 has better graphics (X4500HD vs. Vostro's X3100), a dual core processor [(T4200 (2.0GHz) vs Vostro's single core Celeron 560 (2.13GHz)] and all the other specs are the same.

I think you should consider this one. I have this model (bought used in same grade condition) and it has been solid for over a year now. These are rock solid machines, high quality components, fast, and at a price below your budget. Just my 2 cents. grade a is very nice condition (well taken care of) and runs perfect. I could probably use a new battery (holds for about 1 hour these days). I use mine for the exact same thing that you would be using it for. Another great thing is all the documentation you can pull off the web, I love mine.

This is a new one from the same place

They are in Toronto and have a show room where you can walk in a look as well, maybe you can dicker with them? http://www.laptopcloseout.ca/canada/...?target=../../

Also, I would only buy a dell or ibm/lenevo
