Closing the lid of my netbook PC?
Hi all!
When I close the lid of my Acer Aspire One netbook (with Windows running) the machine seems to switch off. What mode is it going into when I close the lid? Hibernate? Standby? Is it safe to switch the netbook off this way? I like it because when I open the lid again Windows XP comes back to life almost instantly (instead of waiting for the machine to boot).

It's going into whatever mode the power options are set to - "When I close the lid of my portable computer".

Anyway, it reverts to STANDBY when I close the lid. Is it safe to leave the netbook in this state for indefinite periods? |

If it's not connected to AC power, the battery will eventually die.

It will take days for the battery to die, though -- possibly weeks if it has a full charge when you put it to sleep.
