thinkpad?
Long story short thinkpad r40e P4 2.2ghz. Was working fine. Power port got hot and saw smoke. Its broken. It still turns on with battery but I have no AC now.
Is $125 reasonable to get the power port fixed. A local place near me. I saw it on their site. Or I really like these new atom laptops. Bestbuy has one for $239. So little over 100 extra get a brand new laptop. But I've read atom is very low power not so good. |

I just bought an Asus Eee 900ha, the Atom has plenty of power for me. However, the netbooks don't have optical drives and for $239 you may only be getting a small SSD and Linux.

You mean the hard disk. No XP and 8gb hd and 1gb ram.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218040477207 Is 8gb not enough for XP? Or Costoc has some for 299 with 160gb hd. Atom also. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...=1&topnav=&s=1 |

That's the one I bought. By the time I finished with a 2gb ram module and an external slim DVD burner, it was exactly $400 shipped. |

That's also an Acer, not an Asus. Costco also charges sales tax.

I've bought so many asus motherboards. They all broke. I don't like asus. And sales tax is probably cheaper than shipping.

I'll take an Atom over a Celeron. Faster FSB and dual core.

Yes, but the Celeron in that Eee is not dual core. It's single core, 400 fsb, and 900 MHz speed. The Atom is 533 fsb, dual core, and 1.6 GHz speed. They both have 512k cache.

Only the 45nm Diamondville 300 series Atom processors are dual core, all the other Atom processors (including the N270 in the netbook you linked to) are single core. The performance per clock of the Atom processors is actually quite a bit lower than the Celeron, however since the Atom is clocked so much higher than the Celeron in this case, the Atom is faster.

Sorry about that - but it is hyperthreaded.
