Laptop problem

just got this from a daughter I don't have the foggiest what she's talking about. Know nothing about laptops

If any one can help i'lll credit the forum

Dad,

My friend Missie has a laptop computer. The battery died so they sent her a new one in the mail. She charged it for 10 hours without it on and when she turns it on it still indicates that it is fair not good or outstanding. When she checked on it further it said she needs to configure it. What does this mean? Thanks.......

Karen

Not sure what "configure it" means but I have seen several Dell laptops that will stop charging the battery but still run off the ac adapter. The first suspicion is replace the battery but the problem persists. Turns out the adapter can cause a failure in the charging circuit. Tell her to try a different adapter.

Isn't configuring a battery simply fully charging and then fully discharging it for 5 times in order to flex the cells to get their full potential?
