Laptop AC Power Adapter

I have a Toshiba laptop and the power adapter cord broke. I am looking at a replacement. Am I good with just about any universal brand or what do I need to look for? I don't want to spend a lot of money on it since I am currently shopping for a new laptop. I would like something that won't fry this laptop once it is plugged in though. It still works fine just not as fast as I want.

Match the volts and the amps, and make sure the adapter will fit the AC socket on the laptop.
