issue: slow PIII 800 notebook
installed: win x sp3- w/latyest udates equipment: Dell X200 notebook (PIII-800, 256 ram, 40gb hdd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- any way to speed this machine up--takes 4 minutes to boot (to desktop)..hdd thrashing..i know 256 is a bit low for ram but other machines have run fine with same setup--winx just freshly installed.,removed several startup programs (via ms config) and set paging file to 356-356 mb. no viruses. maybe its thye xp udates?...if so--how do i remove them?? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ thanx. |

256 megs of ram is more then a bit slow....I'd let Windows manage the pagefile.

took of avg anti-virus--heled a bit but still slow..wil chang to windows managed pagefile and try again. wonder if its the sp-3 updates???? they r not individually listed under "add-remove programs" (control panel)--so how can i remove them? where wld be a good place to find (old) 144 pin pc100 ram (516 mb) for this notebook? |
