Is it too late to take it back and get one with an OS you know how to use?
Did you by any chance verify that XP will run on the machine? Meaning, there needs to be XP Drivers that were created just for this pc? Do you have an unused XP cd and an external cd drive?

There are plenty of netbooks out there with XP, I'd return it.

The original poster does not state whether he has an 8GB SSD or larger capacity hard drive??? Installing XP on an 8GB SSD would be stupid IMO.

Also - bear this in mind...
My Acer Aspire One dual boots Ubuntu Netbook Remix and Windows XP and whilst Ubuntu Linux runs excellently, Windows XP runs so mind-numbingly slow!

I have an HP Mini 1010 NR with an 8 GB SSD running XP Home. Fits just fine after customizing with nlite and not putting in a bunch of unnecessary. I run Portable Apps.
