PSU Fan for a Toshiba laptop
Well it figures 3yrs 2 months after the warranty expires I have issues with my laptop. It is a Toshiba A105-S361. It appears the psu fan has stopped working, and the laptop gets extremely hot. It powers up no problem, but I need to know how easy it is or hard to replace the fan, as I have never worked on a laptop.. I called Toshiba, and they said it would be $400 to fix, I laughed and said no thanks, I will do it on my own..
Then I called the parts department, and they said it would be $45 just for the fan.. don't know about the psu as they need the part number, which I don't have yet as I did not take it apart, and probably don't know how LOL... So my question is how hard is it? Where can I get a fan cheaper? I would rather repair it than replace the whol thing as it still works fine other than the over heating issue because of a dead fan. Thanks in advance..

Is it possible that it is so clogged or dirty that it does not appear to be working? It might just need cleaned out. This has happened to me
you should be able to find a disassembly guide for your laptop here:http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptop...herboard-1.htm I have a similar toshiba that I had a similar problem with. It would start fine, then overheat and often shut off. Dissassembly does take some time, but it is not too difficult if you are inclined. Make sure you keep track of wht came out of where, and if it takes a certain type of screw (I think mine has 3 different types). I just put them together in the order that I took them apart. I would take it apart clean it up as best as I can and take some compressed air to it, taking to make sure that the heatsink can get airflow through it. Then give it another try. Make sure all of the parts spin as they should and that the heatsink is not clogged. Last edited by roaming_builder; 08-18-2009 at 05:51 PM. |

Udate all fixed
Come to find out I was wrong, it is not a psu fan, it is the cpu fan.. I cleaned out the laptop put it all back together and as is well. I did call Toshiba, and asked them if the fan is suppose to stay on all the time, or come on only when it needs to. They told me only when it needs to, so no need for a fan, and it works fine.. Well I guess now I can say I finally took apart a laptop and put it back together right LOL

Yeah I thought something was up when I saw the thread title: "Laptop power bricks have fans now?". Laptops are quite daunting at first but usually they are quite simple to dis and re assemble.
