Gaming laptop (Alienware or Clevo)
If I'm willing to spend 3500-5000 USD on a laptop, would you guys recommend custom building an Alienware or Clevo, or perhaps something else entirely?
I have the money, want a desktop replacement/gaming machine. I know about the heat, weight, and battery life. None of those are an issue for me. I'm not worried about the way the laptop looks either. What I'm worried about is performance, reliability, usability, and the keyboard. I realize for a top of the line Clevo or Alienware M17X I will be getting a fast machine, but I want to know which one seems preferable for the speed vs. cost and the other factors I mentioned. If there is another, better option I would be interested as well. Edit 1: I'd just like to clarify that the reason I want this and not a desktop is: I have a 'decent' gaming desktop, I'm currently working 3 hours away from friends/family so I'm tired of lugging my desktop around (not to mention other areas I travel to where I'm there for days or a week and want a good computer), I have plenty of money at my current job, and I think it would be fun to have a very powerful laptop that will play games for some time to come. Edit 2: Was just looking at Malibal.com and powernotebooks.com and thought one of those might be a better solution...? Last edited by Jdorty; 09-01-2009 at 07:21 PM. |

I'd go for the Alienware because you will have Dell standing behind it.

Asus makes awesome Gaming Laptops, they are far better than any Dell or Alienware and you won't have to worry about some cheap motherboard used in your gaming laptop, it will be an Asus.

Lol, so Alienware or Asus? My only problem with Asus is its not nearly as powerful and I've read a few gripes in reviews; too much extra software (which I can easily delete of course), and a problem with the hinges on the W90 feeling 'flimsy' which would worry me about them breaking after thousands of openings.
I was looking at Malibal, which lets you build custom Clevo laptops. They got awesome reviews on resellerratings.com What do you guys think? |
