Dell Inspiron 6000 LCD Won't Dim Down
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 that boots up on full brightness, and won't dim down. When you push the FN key,and the up,and down arrow, the screen starts to dim down a notch, but then goes back up to where it was again. The LCD was replaced before I received it because it was broken.Could it be a bad LCD?Wrong LCD?Something wrong with the motherboard?I tried another inverter, and video drivers, but it didn't help. The keyboard works fine,so I don't believe it's that.Any help is greatly appreciated.Thank You very much!

I had already installed the drivers from Dell, but it didn't help any. Also, the screen is this way before Windows even loads. The BIOS has a screen brightness setting, but it does the same thing that the keyboard does when I am in Windows. As I'm pushing the arrow keys, the screen dims down a notch, then goes back up,and then down with each press of the key.For example,if I press the down arrow until the screen doesn't dim anymore, and start pressing the up arrow to brighten it up,it goes something like.Bright dim, dim, bright, until the up arrow doesn't do anything anymore. It's pretty much the same way when I try to dim it down.I hope this helps.Thank You very much!

You might try a bios update and see if that helps. Sounds like your current acpi in the bios is not talking to the monitor correctly. Could be a bios corruption issue.

I also though that it might have had something to do with a bad BIOS update as well.I have the latest version, and already tried to update it with the newest version again, but it wouldn't let me.Is there a way to go back to an older version, and then back to the newest one?Thank You very much!

Hold up a minute.
edit : Before you try flashing the bios again, and maybe killing the laptop, that laptop is old enough that if the driver update didn't work then you should do a hardware check. You description also fits a failing cable/ poor connection from the screen to the laptop chassis, especially since it seems the screen can be dimmed briefly and the current lcd is a replacement, Do you know anyone who can look at it for you ?
