HP won't boot properly
My sister just gave me her HP Pavillion dv6000 (I believe the actual model to be dv6408nr) that will not start up. When you push the power button, the LEDs light up and I can hear the hard drive spin. However, nothing else happens, and the computer than shuts itself off and then attempts another restart, only to fail and power cycle again. Occasionaly the fan will begin to spin as well. It does this 2-3 times before just shutting off for good. Nothing ever comes up on the screen--it just stays dark. She tried replacing the battery which made no difference and the same thing happens whether the computer is plugged in or not. I attempted to look this issue up on the HP website but didn't really find anything relating to this problem. Anyone have any ideas of what may be wrong or suggestions on what to try next? Thanks everyone.

No, I don't have another hard drive. While I've built several desktops for myself, this is honestly my first time working on a laptop, so it's kind of unchartered water for myself.

I believe that your notebook has an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 graphics adapter per these specs:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...=38239&lang=en and those HP models had a lot of reported overheating problems. Given your symptoms and that history, I would guess your graphics adapter is fried. Also, double check your warranty status. I saw some reports from google that HP had extended the warranty on some dv6000 notebooks because of all the overheating problems and high failure rates. You may have lucked out ; it's at least worth an inquiry to HP. |
