Looking for a PDA, not a smartphone
I'm on the Verizon network, and i can't afford the data plans they charge for. But i'm looking for a PDA i can sync up with my computer, organize my contacts and appointments, and have wireless internet on it via Wifi. Can anyone recommend a model/brand? I was looking into Palm, but they sort of dedicated their site to the new Pre and their line of smartphones, which is not what i need. Any opinions are appreciated.

Hard to find a new PDA that isn't a smart phone. You could try older Palms on Ebay or refurbs at Overstock. I'd look at some of the HP Windows mobile devices too. Acer used to make some, but they may be all smart phones now.
Are you forced to get a data plan with Verizon if you get a smartphone? I believe AT&T just recently started this ... when I got mine 6 months ago it was optional.

Yea, with Verizon, you are forced to get a data plan. It's like $40 extra a month at least, and then it goes up form there if you wan to use more of the internet, and for most of their phones, Verizon disables the wifi in the phone.

A guy at work uses an iPod touch to replace his PalmPilot. He has it set up to sync with the office's Outlook for e-mail/calender/contacts/etc. He can surf the web using WIFI.
