major laptop failure...i think
hey guys im in a bit of a pickle with my laptop out of no where i thought i'd come on this site which has helped me SOOO many times before for an answer. i was watching something on youtube and my laptop just shut off on me. i tried to turn it back on again 5 minutes later, figured it just overheated, and it turns on and it says "please check system fan" and turns off again... repeated it an hour later and same thing happened again... i checked to see if the fan at the bottom is working and sure enough it isn't. so is it cheap to get a new fan and install it or should i break the bank for a new laptop... my laptop is about 4 years old any way.

I've replaced cpu fans on several laptops and it's not difficult. You just need patience, some small screwdrivers (typically) and hopefully, a downloadable service manual. What brand and model laptop do you have? Might be able to point you in the right direction for a manual and fan.
