Laptop won't boot
This was my first week back to school, and i come back, and i find out my backup laptop won't boot up. It's the Dell Inspiron 5100 I have listed in my signature. The rest of family use that to play mindless games on and do homework, as i let them do so, but i keep it running up-to-date and secure like i do with everything. I went to boot it today, and the green light comes on, i hear the fan turn on, they turn off, and everything shuts off within 4 seconds. Nothing comes up on the screen, this never happened with this computer before. It is a bit over 7 years old now so i know it's past its prime, but i still would like to get it up and running if i can figure it out. Now i tried taking the battery out and booting it plugged straight into the wall, and it does the same thing, so i know the battery isn't dead. Can anyone think of anything i can try to do for it?

Update, it must have been a fluke, because when i unplugged the AC adapter it turned right on no problem. I then plugged it back in, rebooted it, and now it works. So hopefulle it doesn't happen again, but if anyone can sawy what might have caused it, please let me know. Thanks!

sometime it takes a bit of time to get it out of hibernation.I usually play with the mouse pad until I see hard-drive light come on. Being seven years old, it's also a bit tired
