You'll get better/more replies if you post links to the specs that you have right there at your finger tips

http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668356.php
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+L...6125&cp=1&lp=1 From those 2 sites that I saw, go for the Asus. 2GB more ram, and cheaper. Plus it's asus

EzyStvy has a point in that we still need YOUR specs of your current laptop, or else do you only have a desktop and are searching for a decent laptop?

we already have our desktop but my brother keeps on shoving me aside for him to use it so i decided to buy my own laptop...i dont have any specific specs in mind so i juz rely on what the manufacturer offer themselves.......im hoping to get opinions based on the original specs offered by the manufacturers...

I don't care what the specs are, I'll take any Asus over any Gateway. Gateway is now owned by Acer and is nowhere near the same quality.

..if gateway is now owned by acer..that changes things....a survey posted in yahoo says that acer and HP doesn't last a year but toshiba and asus lasts longer...i'll go for asus then..THANKS...

From a quality and reliability standpoint, there are only 3 major brands of laptops I'll buy - Asus, Dell, or Lenovo.
