Toshiba Satellite with broken LCD

Hey folks I have a Toshiba Satellite A205 with a broken LCD but now when I turn it on it shuts down (power light go out). Then it makes 2 more failed attempts and that's it. Power off.

I already managed to open it up all the way down to the motherboard, LCD Display disconnected trying to see if anything was wrong with the mother board and other components but everything looks like new (normal looking). Not one trace of any visual problem other than a broken LCD. Hard drive works ok as well.

I tried other hd's but it is the same problem.

Any help apprecaited.

Thanks
Dave

Do you have a vga conncector(or other optional video out) on the back of your laptop? If so try using that and see what happens.

Forgot to mention I tried that with a good monitor. It did not light up.

It was dragged under a car but it was in a very thick and padded case. I know that sounds really terrible but as I mentioned before, apart from the screen the rest of the laptop still looks completely brand new inside out.

The screen really only looks as if someone tapped it lightly with a hard enough object to put cracks in the glass. Looks like a normal broken lcd. Everything else looks normal.

When it was under the car apparently at some point it got hit hard enough to crack the lcd.

If there is any other internal damage somewhere else I am sure no one will be able to see it.

The fact that the laptop does not start with an external display and shuts off could indicate two problems: motherboard and/or cpu. Also the fact that the amount of energy as indicated by the cracked lcd panel had penetrated its protective case would also give an indication that there are other devices which were under the same level of physical stress. I am also guessing that the hard drive could have suffered irreparable damage.

I'm not a laptop guy personally, but really the only way I think to kinow for sure is to be able to test each component seperately with a knwon good working laptop. I would suspect he hdd and power supply would be the best place to start diagnosing-easiest to pull. Be careful in assumong if you find one bad component that the rest are okay.

Just curious, do you know if it was rolled over, or did it hit the ground get hit by the car, flipped and hit again(bump, bang, smack.crack), or really just a simple drop and drag?

Clearly if it was rolled over, you would think you would see the damage-you didn't. If it tumbled, I wouldn't waste my time with it. Of course that depends on your financial ability to replace it, and of course how much is invested in it. If its the one I think it is(Walmart 299.00 special) I'd just replace it.

None of the above apart from it probably falling on its side prior to the drag is a possibility.

The power supply is spinning ok and the hard drive as mentioned is good. The other two I tested are also good. They were all tried with the laptop including the one that came with it. All these hard drives read and work fine.

This laptop was bought new at Best Buy on sale. A decent laptop IMO.

Thanks guys.

when you boot up the laptop with external monitor you need to press "FN-F4" to switch video to external monitor, laptop will not auto switch to external monitor. try that see any video come out.
