I've been working on a HP Pavilion DV2000 laptop(Windows Vista) for a friend of mine. At first the problem was no display or boot up. Which I troubleshooted to be an overheating of the motherboard. Which I did replace with new motherboard. At first it seemed to have solved the issue and booted up with no problem. Then it seemed as if the display had a loose connection as the screen display fuzz in and out until finally nothing is displayed. I used to get a picture if I moved the display around a bit. The hard drive and computer display still boot up in the background as I can still see hard drive light flickering and her the sound of the "Windows" splash "or boot up sound" so I know it's running in the background. The LCD screen is dimly lit with no visible images that I can see. I was wondering if it was just the inverter or LCD display problem(or both). I checked Ebay and prices for both of those seem reasonable enough to fix. I suppose I could replace both to be on the safe side. I'm just looking to see if there is something I overlooked. Thank you.

Might want to check the cable first. Most laptops have a flat ribbon cable that plugs into the motherboard and delivers the signal up to the display. After so many times of opening and closing the laptop, that cable can break internally and cause those same symptoms. So you might try opening it back up and finding the flat ribbon cable that runs up there for the signal and try moving it around or bending it back and forth a little and see if your picture comes back. If so, that cable's all you need. Not saying it can't be what you mentioned, just that I'd check the cable first because it's more likely.
