Buying new laptop
Ok. Well this will be a long post for sure. Trying to remember all of the information you will need.
This laptop budget is about $2000. Give or take. its not concrete but aiming to keep it in that range. First brand names. I have been referred to Toshiba, Asus and Lenova. Anyone else have a suggestion? I am jumping between a gaming laptop and more of a work oriented laptop. IE. Autocad, and 3D imaging and what not. With toshiba. I am thinking the "Qosmio" brand. http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.gr...9652&category= For Lenova. The T series. You can customize then to a point though the graphics card is a concern for me. http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/c...CAAC13703524BD Haven't found an asus that looks promising as the site isn't very good at 100% easy comparison. First things first though. how easy is it to upgrade the ram in a laptop? Would it be cheaper to just buy the ram separately as long as it supports the amount of ram I want? I want as much as possible so 8gb max. Should I go for a more Quadro FX graphics processor? it looks like its more designed towards Autocad/3d imaging. I would like to game a bit as well but its not a real concern. If i get the Quadro then will i not be able to run any or I won't get much performance as in I wouldn't be able to run slightly older games at reasonable rates. Asus - M60J http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=pAWDOlwZMb508qWy G60J http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_I...specifications [B]G51J[B] http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=wGROClu9UevFOGKS NP8760 http://www.sagernotebook.com/product...php?pid=218647 For the 6,9,12 cell batteries. Are they pretty much universal where i can get a 12 cell and use it in replace of a 6 cell? How is Sager on warranty/return/etc? I am in Canada but also can order to the states to save on shipping if need be. If you need more information. I will be around all night. So in short... Processor - I7 area Graphics - Ideally 280M or so. ram - DD3 1333mhz. 4gb min. hd - Don't care. 250, 7200rpm Screen - 17"+ Full Keyboard with number pad. Thats about the idea of what i want. Suggestions, what else to consider? |

I recommend Asus, Dell, and Lenovo.
You can game on a Quadro FX, but you won't get the same performance as you would get with a GeForce. Same applies to a Fire vs. a Radeon. Sager is supposed to make some excellent machines, but I have no personal knowledge of their support. . Batteries are far from universal, you have to research each model individually. Yes, you can upgrade your own ram, but make sure you buy guaranteed compatible ram. |
