volume buttons dont work

computer: IBM thinkpad r30 P4-m 1.7/512 ram (notebook)

issue: volume up/down buttons have no effect; mute button works

discussion: recently aquired ibm thinkpad r30--all fine except the volume up and down buttons have no effect; while the mute button does work ok.

suggestions re: whsat to check/possible fix.

It could be possible that the buttons are broken internally, cable came loose from the system board or it's a driver issue. I would try to reinstall the display manager, the hotkey manager (or anything else related to that) and see if that clears up the problem. You can get new drivers and such from the Lenovo site --> http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si.../homeLenovo.do

Just type in your machine type and model info (nnnn-xxx) in the text box to the right and you should be able to get all of the stuff you need.

Also, did this problem happen right after an app install or windows update? If so you might consider removing the app/ updates and rebooting to see if the function comes back.
