May say goodbye to Blackberry
Well, I've been eligable for a phone upgrade for about a year now, and haven't found a blackberry that is worth upgrading to that would be that much better than my Curve 8330.
The Tour 2/ Bold is supposed to be out soon....since about 6 months ago.... The Bold 9700 is out, and looks impressive, but just a few updates, and slightly better specs. So I started looking at the Palm Pre Plus yesterday. Even though it's only on Verizon, and I have sprint, it was fun to look at. I really liked the interface and os. It was fun. It's a slider, so I'm not sure how good the build quality will be. I'm also excited about the Nexus One, and Supersonic (which is supposed to be coming to sprint). They are google phones, and seem to have the best specs around. They are all touch screen, and have no physical keyboard. I'm concerned about getting a phone with no qwerty keyboard since i like to text and email. Also worried about how well they would push email since I have about 6 accounts right now that I use. Any suggestions/opinions?

I'm in the same boat shadow... I stopped into Sprint this past weekend and down my choices to the BB Curve 8530 or Samsung Instinct (Android technology). The sales rep said those would have been his choices as well and he was looking to upgrade his 8330 to one of these phones. He said out of all the phones Sprint carries these two were hardly found in his service center.
The Palm Pre's have had tons of issues, so I've heard... A friend of mine has one, I like it, but was a bit weary after hearing other reviews from people who have had them. |

Yeah, I hear the build quality of the Palm Pre isn't the best, but the os is great.
It's a tough choice for me. I love my blackberry, but it's getting old. |

Look into the Samsung Instinct. I'm not too hot on touch phones, but this one impressed me quite a bit. Has a keypad as well when you slide the phone.

The new BB browser works pretty well I thought. They have done a lot of nice upgrades. Did you even look at the 8530? I feel the same way you do, but after playing with it at the store for a bit I was impressed.

I have looked at the new curve, but to me, it's too much like the old one. The bb browser still isn't up to other browsers. I did hear they were coming out with a new one once they have their os 6 or something like that.
Guess I'll just wait a little longer o see what they come up with, at least until the supersonic comes out. |

I was looking at the Nexus one...the "Google Phone". But if you want it as part of a plan you have to go through T-Mobile...ugggh
. What was Google thinking? They did not know that T-Mobile would be a deal killer? Otherwise, unlocked its going to cost you over $500 bucks. If a plan ever comes out through Verizon or they drop the price of the phone significantly, then they have a customer here. You may want to wait for them to drop the price on that phone then you could justify going with whichever phone service provider you want.

If you have Verizon and want a Google phone, you can get a Droid.

That's excellent. Has anyone heard any rumors as to what the Nexus/Verizon plan might cost? Does the Droid allow open source applications, like the Nexus?
I hope I am not hijacking this thread. |

I would assume it would cost the same as any opther phone with a data plan.
And I don't consider it a hijack. Any talk of different phones that could replace a blackberry is good. |

The interesting thing is how good will a google phone handle pop3 email? Can it push it out to the phone instantly like a blackberry?

It uses Gmail. As part of the phone setup, you need to give it your Gmail address or get a Gmail account if you don't already have one.

That may be a problem for me. I'm trying to step away from gmail and go all pop3 accounts.

You just forward them to your Gmail account if you want to check them with your phone.

I may stick with another blackberry if that's the case. I refuse to be forced to have a certain email account.

No, you can set up your email accts even if they are NOT gmail. I just did my friends Droid the other day when he got it. He has 3 different email accounts, each from a different provider.
I have to say, I love the Droid, but the Samsung Moment is comparable to it from Sprints side. |
