acer netbook shut off problem
Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum...but not new to forums in general. I am hoping to become a regular user and to give help when it can be given and receive it when needed ![]() anyway, i have a acer 10 inch netbook that is giving me a problem. when you power it up, it just shuts off randomly...sometimes in 5 seconds...sometimes in 15 seconds and sometimes in 5 minutes. I dont understand what the problem can be. Is there any solution to this problem out there? I did a search but didnt really come up with anything yet. I've searched the net as well and some people say to do a "reset" but that hasnt helped me. ANY info is helpful info to me. Please any and all input is welcome! Regards, Rob |

I'd suspect overheating. Are the vents clear and free of lint?

well...would it overheat within 5 seconds?
vents are clear tho, fan turns on as well. I pressed alt +f10 and started a system restore, but shut off half way...then turned it on again, it continued the system restore and finished it....its been on for about 8 hrs straight now and no shutting off yet. I'm very confused. |

Check your power management settings - for both AC power and battery power.

To make sure they aren't allowing a complete power down. Also check what it's set to do when the battery capacity drops below a certain percentage.

how do i check that?
as far as the battery goes, seems like its holding its charge just fine...used it for hours without plugging it in and it was fine. The computer would shut off with or without it plugged in. |

after all that it turned off on me again
![]() any ideas anyone? i checked the power options and they seem normal. Not sure if you guys will get this, but the computer shuts down as if I was to hold the power button down for 3 seconds. its clicks whines a little bit as well, but does this randomly on its own after it shut off...i turned it on twice right after and i had 2 quick shut offs. the third one turned on and its been on for about 5 minutes now...and no shut off yet. |

If it's still on warranty, I'd contact Acer for support.

If it's on warranty, there is no sense in avoiding the manufacturer. By doing a fresh install, I think you have ruled out a simple software issue.

I returned my faulty netbook to Acer for repair and trust me when I say their service was exceptional. Netbook returned to me hassle free in 7 days in perfect working order.

I have to agree. You don't want to wait to long and then find out its out of warranty.
Have you checked your battery? If I were you I would take out the battery and make sure all the terminals look good. If you anyone with a similar laptop try their battery. Also, check that your power switch isn't held in or faulty (does it still click). Just thought of something else... My computer did something similar a few times. Once when the mobo fan went out and once more when my HDD had a bad sector. It would run for a few minutes and blue screen. If you can get it up and running or can pull the hdd WITHOUT voiding your warranty then you can go to the drive properties and run a check on the drive. Unlikely but it shouldn't take more than an hour

I also agree,
Manufacturer is the best option when you DONT have any other option. I was trying avoid it to skip sending it to them. Its fine ill send it out. There was a BIOS update available, did that, it worked for like 2 days and it shuts off again. ill keep you guys updated just so if there is someone out there with a similar problem they'll have some idea of what to do. |

That's risky, doing a bios update on a machine that won't stay up... glad it didn't crash

Sounds like a PS problem on the MB.
Acer is one of the few companies that Warranty Labor and Parts for 12 months. I would send it in for repair. Where did you buy the Acer from? |
