This laptop for a while had a fan running rather loudly just beneath the upper right corner of the keyboard. The sound recently stopped, but now the chassis feels very warm to the touch in that spot, and the fan on the other side of the laptop is running overtime to try to cool the temp difference.
Speedfan lists Core1 and Core2 as being with acceptable range (@ 45C under load), but it also lists just a plain Core at over 75C. Not sure what that third Core stands for... Anyway, question is can the fan that appears to have died be replaced? Haven't even opened up the laptop to see what's there, so dunno if there's any help to be had. Alright, thx.

My only advise is to get it repaired asap as you run the risk of maybe burning components out.

The laptop has been off since I noticed this, other than popping it on to run Speedfan and get some readings. My question is more, "Can I replace this fan myself" if I can get it ordered from Dell? Or will this need to be sent in for repair?

Is the warranty expired?
You can download the service manual and see for yourself how involved it's going to be. |
