Toshiba laptop Bios

My partner has a Toshiba laptop, model No Satellite 2450-101.
The recovery disc instruction says press the letter C during startup to access the recovery CD rom. This does not work.
I went online and found recovery instructions. This stated -- press F12 during startup to access the recovery disc. This does not work either.

Does anyone know the correct method, or how to get into the bios if neccessary, to change the boot sequence.

Thank you
Jack

Boot the system up and hold down the‘Esc’ key, then press F1 when you get the check system message. You are then in the BIOS Setup and you can make your changes and save and exit by pressing the ‘End’ key.

I just booted holding the esc key, and it is asking for a password. It seems Toshiba must have built it like that.

Yep, and the only way to get around that is disassembly and soldering - or send it to Toshiba and pay them to remove it.

Many thanks for the reply. It seems crazy for Toshiba to supply recovery discs which you cannot use.

My Toshiba laptop has a function in the Toshiba tools where you can make a recovery/boot CD. However, you have to have booted and be in Windows to use it.

I would THINK that if there's a bootable CD in the drive, it SHOULD be factory set to boot from it. Maybe there's something wrong with the CD drive or the CD itself.

Out of curiosity, I just booted the laptop into windows (XP) and put in a Norton internet security disc. It accessed the disc ok. I re-started the laptop with the Norton disc still in the CD drive, and the laptop went into windows ok.
The Norton disc is a bootable one, so I assume the bios is not set to boot from CD first.
