Recently I formated the C: drive on my HP Pavilion dv9720us Laptop only to find out that my doit yourself disc no longer work. Now, will it work to install Windows 7 for system builders on that machine. After all I am going to install a new hard drive and memory on it?

Yes, you can install a new Windows license without issue. Be sure to verify your hardware if you purchase the 64bit version. 32bit shouldn't have any trouble but I would still do a check.

Before that though, have you tried using the recovery partition to restore the original installation? Recovery should be accessible by repeatedly pressing F10 when you first power up the laptop.

Actually I ran the program from the disks and reformated which also would have reinstalled
the partition. Well low and behold my disks are shot. So after sitting with the HP Tech guy for four hours he also came to the same decision. So I have a brand new set of Vista install disks coming in the mail will end up costing around $65.00. The fact that its Vista Home Premium doesn't bother me, but the thought that I could have bought Windows 7 and put that on instead does, but live and learn, LOL.
