Two Different Memory Reports
I'm working on a Compaq Presario V2000 with Win XP Home. The lady complains of a very slow computer.
After cleaning everything up, checking for spyware, virii, etc., and disabling the unnecessary services, I checked in Control Panel>System and it says that there is 384mb of memory. I thought that was not very much and gave a good reason for the slowness. I ran the scan from Crucial and it found 512mb and the BIOS also says 512mb. I'm wondering why the the different reads of memory. Can anyone answer this one? Either way, I'm going to talk her into buying more memory. TIA Carl |

512 - 384 = 128 which is what is probably assigned to the built in video card.

You might be able to reduce the amount of shared memory the video uses in the bios.

I don't have the laptop now to take a look to see what could be done. The lady is going to consider either more memory or an up to date laptop. This one will hold up to 2gig. I told her it would perform faster but it is rapidly getting out dated. |
