Cursor jumps on Dell laptop while typing

My sister recently purchased a Dell Inspiron i1764-5955 laptop. At times when she is typing the cursor jumps to a different part of the screen which changes the place where she is typing.

Can the mousepad on the laptop be disabled while she is typing?

Also, is there a way where the mousepad on the laptop can be disabled when an external mouse is plugged into a USB port? Thanks.

Control Panel -> Mouse->there is an option to hide the cursor while typing - disable that to see if it helps.

You can go into Device Manager and disable the touchpad.

Thanks. I'll try those options and see which one works best for my sister.

Hide pointer while typing is already checked.

Under mouse in the device manager there are 2 devices showing.
1. HID compliant mouse
2. P/S 2 Compliant mouse

There is no "disable" in the drop down menu for the P/S 2.
There is a disable for the HID compliant mouse and when I disable it the wireless external mouse stops funtioning. What am I missing? Thanks.

Your goal was to Disable it - UNcheck it
