Which is the better one in your opinion
I was wondering if I could get a little help. I am going to be buying a laptop today, and I have it narrowed down to two. They are very similar. Really what I want to know is which one would you buy. I think the one with the i5 is the better processor but I have also heard the one with the Phenom has the better graphics card. (ATI mobility radeon HD 5650)
I am going to use it for everything from games to office to music and movies and I just would like to know which one that you would pick. Thank you in advance, it’s so hard shopping for computers these days with limited knowledge and so many different choices available. Pentium i5 + Nvidia Geforce 310m http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0338065 AMD Phenom II P920 + ATI mobility radeon HD5650 http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Satell...ion-toshiba-20 |

Both look pretty comparable in price, i'm surprised with the AMD and ATI, they generally tend to run a bit cheaper than Pentiums. I personally am a Pentium supporter though, I never had an AMD so I can't say about them, but I have had all Pentiums, and they have a nice lifespan, and I like to make my computers work like they're supposed to. Toshiba is also a good choice in computer. In regards to the graphics card, I have owned and used both, so i'm split on both. I'm not trying to deter you from getting a Toshiba, but if you'll be using the laptop for gaming, look at a Sager: http://www.pctorque.com/sager-laptops.php.

Ok thanks for the response. I looked at Sager, but I really am only looking to spend about 800 for this laptop. Sager has one laptop under 800 and its ugly as sin. I know that shouldn’t matter too much but it does :/
All I have ever owned is Toshibas, that’s why I’m looking at that brand. Anyone else? I just want to know which one that you would buy given the choice between the two. Thanks. |

Toshiba doesn't get a lot of recommendations here. Basically Dell Small Business Vostros I think and Lenovo Thinkpads get the best recommendations here. The Lenovos will cost a bit I think. Some like Asus ones too I think. I got a Lenovo netbook and am happy so far after about 7 months.

I'm not a Toshiba fan. For that use, I'd look at Asus. I wouldn't look at business laptops.

I really appreciate your help guys, but I have had three Toshiba laptops in my life and all three are still running, I love them. I have given my other two to my brother and my neice. My current one is going to my nephew so Im looking to get another Toshiba for sure.
So really please please, just say of the two, if someone twisted your arm and said to pick one, which would go with of those two Toshibas? Thanks! |

I guess i'm one of the few who does support Toshiba then, I just recommended the Sager if you wanted it mainly for gaming, I didn't know you have the $800 limit. My friend has had a Toshiba for many years, and has never seen a hiccup; i'm not a fan of lenovos or Asus and especially not Dells. I would say go for the Pentium + Nvidia

Okay - maybe you are 3 for 3, but in my many years in the business my batting average with Toshiba is far from 1.000.

My friend doesn't use his computer for much besides office and checking email. If I used it, probably wouldn't last too long, but for the OP's budget, I think it's a good option.
