ASUS K42JR-A1: worst experience ever

I did a ton of research on laptops before setting on this Asus 14" laptop. For the most part it works pretty well, but from time to time since I bought it back in March it has completely frozen for anywhere between 30-60sec, then come back alive. Thought it was Firefox, but still happened in IE...or anything else I was doing on the computer ( I dont play games).

Then recently the computer about once a week will not come out of hibernate or sleep mode. It's really weird because I have it so when the lid is closed it hibernates, and every so often I open the lid and the screen is ALMOST completely black. I say almost because you can faintly see in the background the windows 7 premium login screen. I have to completely restart the laptop for it to work again. What is going on here?

I've read reviews on laptopmag.com, tiger direct, and amazon and the reviews are pretty mixed on this laptop though no one says they have these specific issues. I have already returned the laptop once to ASUS and they sent me the same laptop back w/o telling me what they did to it (I found a driver CD in the laptop, so I'm assuming they reinstalled everything).

Still no luck. I'm contemplating calling them up for a brand new machine, but first would like your guys' opinion on what I should do.

How would I go about completely reformatting and reinstalling windows? I have a driver cd but not sure if I just insert this cd or what.

thanks for any help guys!

If all you have is a driver CD, you probably can only use the recovery partition. It should be addressed in your manual. My Asus EeePC came with both a recovery partition and a recovery DVD.
