Travel unit
My wife travels(i don't). We need something to communicate at a reasonable price while she is gone(going to Mexico next month).
I was looking at the Asus Eee PC 1015PED. Wondering what you folks use. Do you just bite the bullet and pay roaming fees?

No, countries like Mexico have wifi at the better hotels. I was at one hotel, the Melia in Puerto Vallarta, that had free use of their computers in the lobby.
Find a decent hotel and you can get all the internet access you need for free.

I use a EeePC when I travel. I'm on it right now, as a matter of fact.

A word of caution
I went to Vegas in May to get married and stayed at the Excalibur. The hotel has no wifi, so for free internet access they use ethernet connections in every room (they say for security reasons, but whatever). It was nice, easy to connect to, even fast. But my best man and his wife brought their laptop with wifi and no way to connect to the ethernet cable (macbook, I believe). I'd never seen this before, so I'm not sure how common it is (I don't stay in hotels often).
Just something to keep in mind, as the iPad would leave you in a similar situation unless you have AT&T service with it. But then again, that could leave you with roaming fees. |
