Question Power Question ?

Hello Guys,

I have a HP Pavilion zd8000 which will not turn on. Before I can delve into troubleshooting, I have measured the charger(AC Adapter) output voltage, instead of 19V as specified, the voltmeter shows 16V only. Do the 3V make any difference to power up the all laptop or not. The battery is not charging neither.

Thanks a lot.

Thierry

It depends.

If the batteries need 19 volts to charge and they are only receiving 16 volts then it is not going to happen.

If the charger steps up the voltage from 16 volts when there is no current flow to 19 volts when there is current flow then the charger may or may not be the cause.

Another possibility is that the battery regulator has gone bad inside the laptop.

One more possibility is that the battery may be getting the correct charge voltage but no longer holds a charge.

I would first try the least expensive potential solution by purchasing a replacement charger. If that does not work then try replacing the battery.
