Anything but an iPod
I'm currently in the market for a 16-32 gig mp3 player. I will never touch an Apple product, so that's right out. Also, I want a very consumer-friendly device, meaning something that I can just drag and drop files into, without the need for iTunes-like programs.
I currently have an 8gb Sansa View and while I really like the ease of file management, I would like more space and I would like a device that can rewind and fast forward MUCH faster (I listen to audiobooks mostly, and those files can be up to an hour long each). Any suggestions? |

Yeah I'm not really looking for a phone (unless I misunderstood your suggestion). I hardly ever use my phone so I don't want to spend $30 more per month on a data plan. I just want a nice mp3 player.

This would be my choice:
Amazon.com: COWON J3 32 GB Portable Media Player (Black): Electronics I currently have a perfectly fine Cowon D2, though, so probably will not be getting the J3. If I were to accidentally drop the D2 though .... Cowon is still considered one of the best, if not the best, PMP out there. The sound is fantastic.

Nice, I've never even heard of Cowon. It's a bit pricey but so far, this seems like the leading contender.

It's very big in the "anything but Ipod" community
and among hifi enthusiasts (I prefer that term to "audiophile" which has gotten a bit of a negative connotation over the years). They have a lower end model (C2, I think) that may suit you better, and most of their players take SD or microSD cards, so you can increase capacity if needed). |

This particular Galaxy isn't a phone. It's Samaung's answer to the iPod Touch. |

It looks like newegg stopped selling cowon for some reason. They used to have a large selection of them
I wonder what happened.

I'm thinking that PMPs are a dying breed. Too many people willing to settle for the convenience of having tunes in their phones over the enhanced audio properties/settings of a dedicated device.

I'd suggest amazon.com.
