Transferring iTunes Music

A friend of mine recently got a new iPod and wanted to transfer his music from the old iPod to his new one. I spent about an hour looking at it, iTunes, and Phone to Mac (a program I found after looking for other sources on the web) and cannot seem to help him. iTunes wants an Apple ID user and password to authorize my transfer or music (which doesnt exist because he used another program via windows to put music on his iPod). Phone to Mac wants $25 to transfer more after the first 10 songs.

Is there another way I can do this for him?

OK back up.
Do this first, what back ups (In his iTunes) does your guy have for his current music?
Find this out first, along with his current version of iTunes, and get back to us.
If he's got an iPod he's got an account, even if he doesn't remember it, that he used to set it up and we can go from there.

Apple does not like you to be able to transfer music from an iPod to iTunes. They believe this promotes piracy. There are third party applications that allow you to do this which of course are not sanctioned by Apple. These types of applications are an easy Google search. I don't know if the rules of the forum allows me to name specific free applications for doing this.

I dont think he used iTunes to get his music to begin with. As far as I know, the only copies he has are on this iPod.

They also said they didnt have a user name and password. Maybe he did and just doesnt remember? I dont really know much about iPods, as I have never owned one.

I will see if I can find something else to transfer this music with.

I really have no idea. He is hispanic and doesnt speak english very well so there is a bit of a language barrier. If I knew I would have posted in the OP (or probably been able to use it to move the files and not need to post here).
