Android Tether
When at Whole Foods I was given choice of their WiFi or Android Tether and could use both. I looked it up when got home and it's a WiFi hotspot you guys already know am sure. Is that safe allowing me or anyone else to access the guy's phone/laptop? I mean, that's why we lock down our routers at home, to keep neighbors out, right?

More and more businesses are offering free unsecured wifi as a convenience to their customers, they generally have the proper equipment to handle it.

Whole Foods has 2 connections that are free. I use them everyday but the Android popped up yesterday and gone today. That's why I figured it was an individual's instrument using it as a hotspot at home, etc and it naturally showed up there. I know Starbucks and others offer also but it always has their name. I remember in a small cafe I once saw another customer's phone listed and saw her Yahoo. Was asking if that person's safety was in jeopardy in a public place since I was able to connect to him. Immediately got out though.
I remember where a guy was at airport and Starbucks and collected over 10 FB logins. |

Ah! I see what you mean now. Yeah, people really do need to shut down their tethering when they take their phone into public places.

Exactly... my phone is locked down unless I need the connection (which is rare)... I figure why have all that stuff on if you're not using it... just sucks down the battery.

I have tethering disabled on mine - because I don't have or need a tethering plan. AT&T charges a hefty premium for tethering capability.

I keep all of the services off that I dont use regularly either. When I leave home, wifi gets turned off. GPS is always off as well unless I turn it on to use it.
