A third generation iPad. It was expensive but I really like it. I find myself on my iPad as much as my PC now.
$200 bucks for the Google tablet is a great deal. It makes it affordable for most everyone. At that price a computer has truly become an appliance. One of the best things Google could do is to give them away to schools or highly discount them.

I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, no plans to trade it for the Nexus 7. If the Nexus 7 had been available when I bought my Tab, I would have considered it.

I don't understand how that is necessary when you can upload to a computer? That's what I do with my iPad, everything is backed up in iTunes.
Besides isn't part of the idea of this tablet is to back things up in the cloud? I think that why Google left out a large amount of internal storage isn't it? Wouldn't also having more onboard storage capacity also push it into a higher price category? Last edited by David M; 07-23-2012 at 11:39 PM. |

I just got a new accessory in the mail today for my Galaxy Tab. It's called a USB OTG (On The GO) cable. I can plug the cable into my Tab and then can connect USB devices to it. I've only tried a 16G USB thumb drive so far but it worked great. The Tab already has a microSD card slot that I have a 32G card in but this expands it's capabilities.

i got one, upgraded from a galaxy 7 2.0.
yeah i wish it had HDMI and an SD card slot, but i need the CPU horses. i use it to fly with as a GPS in rental planes that lack a GPS (app is called naviator). overlaying chart + terrain + approach plates + nav/airport info the samsung gets a bit choppy. the tegra cpu helps on the nexus, per my initial testing. |

I'm planing on getting the 2013 model come next spring and I have a number of relatives who expressed willingness to give my orphaned iPad2 a good home. My tablet has been a mobile office, entertainment center and, thanks to Text Free, communication device for going on for 2 years now of daily use. The only thing I regret is that I didn't get the 64 GB model. Oh yes, apps, apps, apps!

Even though I already have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, I decided to buy a Nexus 7 to play with. I was able to get it thru my son's employer for 10% off so only paid $180 for it. It's a nice tablet (especially for the price) but I haven't found any reason to carry it (or any tablet) with me when I leave the house. I mainly use my tablets around the house in rooms where I'm away from my computer. When I'm out & about, I use my phone as it's much more portable.

I like them both, the difference is that the Nexus 7 has a quad core processor while the Tab 2 has only a dual core. The Tab 2 also has a screen resolution of 1024x600 while the N7 has 1280x800. The N7 has superior hardware, especially nice since it's $50 cheaper.
The one weak point for the N7, as far as I'm concerned, is that it does not have have an SD card slot to expand the storage while the Tab 2 has a micro SD card slot that can accept a 32G card. I got a USB OTG cable for the N7 and I am able to READ (no write capability) from USB thumb drives so I can put movies, music, photos, etc... on a thumb drive to use with the N7. |

I just purchased the 32 gig model of the Nexus 7 and I love it. I wanted the 7 inch for portability. I looked at the ipad mini but selected this one over it. The Nexus has better screen resolution than the mini and the mini was a little too big for my liking. I'm looking forward to playing with all the apps.

One thing I have noticed is the lack of volume on media playback. It is nearly impossible to hear if there is any background noise. This apparently is a known issue. I tried some google play apps with no improvement. Then I remembered that XBMC that I use on the desktop will allow you to boost db levels during media playback. I checked and XBMC has an android app so I downloaded it. Probem fixed!!!!!
From what I read the XDA Development forum hadn't mentioned this as a potential fix. |

@renowilliams, could you provide a link for that. My wife also has a N7. She has a similar concern with the sound level.

For software, google devices have the vanilla version of android. Samsung has its own collection of apps and customizations that are pre-installed and difficult to remove.

I rooted my tablet today and it is running even better than it was. I used the Nexus Root Toolkit V1.6.6 (By Wugfresh) Found here http://www.softpedia.com/get/Mobile-...-Toolkit.shtml
Just follow the instructions and it works flawlessly. |
