true human interface

Being an extreme gamer, I want to know how far along is the technology that would put us inside the computer. It doesn't have to be all johnny mnemonic with cranial jacks and mirrored corneas. I think that a good pair of headphones and a micro projector that covered the surface of the human eye with a computer generated image would do just fine.

In a form currently used, the host and the human interface via VR.
This is possible but not yet feasible for the home PC addict.
As yet, the IA (Intel Arch.) is incapable of moving data at a useful rate.
Virtually all VR systems use a Unix variant.
NASA, armed forces and other likes use such systems for training.
VR for the "home" was introduced about 3 years ago through SGI.
Starting prices were in the $500,000.00 range and this was a minimal system.

If we are lucky it will all come down about the time we are senior citizens and will be cheap enough to trade medicare checks for.
