Vector graphic in Dreamweaver
Hi
I have a mate who has a vector graphic made in Corel and he wants to put it on a web page with dreamwever. Normally I would just link to this link any other image but unfortunaltey it doesn't work. Anyone any ideas.??? By the way please don't ask me what a vector graphic is as I am clueless all I know is its a image that looks great but is apparently not very big in byte size.

There are only 2 simple solutions.
Convert it to a pixel based image by exporting the image as a GIF or a JPEG. If you want to keep it Vector based you'll need to export it as a .swf file. I know Live Motion, Flash, Illustrator 8 and up can do this not sure about Corel Draw.

I believe that web standards only support .gif, .jpg and .png (although some browsers *may* allow others). My advice would be to convert it as said above, or make it a standard image such as jpg or gif.

Oh ya I forgot about PNG.
Swf's files (vectors) are also supported if you have the flash plugin. You can get it here. http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/...ShockwaveFlash

need a tad more info
Yeah ok sorta new all that bit
but I need to know what am I working with when someone starts banging on about vector drawings. I thought all images files were vector grams??? Thanks for the current info so far. Specifically why won't a vector gram work on a web page. Is just it has the wrong extension?? |

No, image files like bitmaps, JPGs, and GIFs are raster images, not vector images. It's not the extension that keeps vector files from displaying on web pages, it's the fact that they are vector images and not raster images. Vector images just aren't supported natively on web pages for whatever reason.

Here is a easy explanation:
There are two types of images (that I know of), vector and raster. Vector - Can be resized to any size without loss of quality. Raster - Can't. |

Raster/bitmaps detail each pixel as an individual entity. Pixel one is green followed by a red, then another green. They are fixed in the amount of information that they contain. They do not resize larger as there is no extra information between the pixels to fill in so the computer does its best guess, and you get a grainy image.
Vector graphics are mathematical in nature and can be resized as needed because the formula will adjust to the space it is given. AJ |
