http_referer variable in ASP

i am writing a stats package for an asp/html site launching very soon

i can grab all sorts of variables such as browser, operating system etc no problem, i can also catch some http_headers

according to my asp book i can get http_referer, which is the page they clicked from to get to this page, however it is always blank qhen i request it

all_http returns all the http variables in one, cookie etc and this doesnt list referer!!!

do i need to switch something on to activate it or something?
