Web host: MS vs Linux
What's the difference between Microsoft and Linux hosting? My host (1and1.com) just raised the price of the MS hosting package by $3 per month. The linux hosting package is cheaper. Can I just backup my site and transfer all the files to the linux server if I decide to switch? Thanx.

According to their website, the M$ hosting has ASP and FrontPage extensions (which are M$ products). If you don't need them, why pay for them? Personally, I would go with the Linux hosting and stay away from "helpful" things like FrontPage extensions.

Unless you are using an app that requires it, there is no reason to be on a MS host and quite a few reasons not to be on one. You can also get Frontpage Extensions, which is a product from Hades, with the Linux host.

Yeah you guessed right
Just do a backup and transfer it over.Basically all the M$ server would do is allow for ASP and various other M$ technologies. If you do not program in ASP, do not pay more for an m$ server. HTH
